Travel North from Savannah - NC, VA, and PA

Left Savannah after the trip to Juliette Low's house and traveled north thru Columbia, SC, and then thru Charlotte, NC.

Mostly interstate so always traffic including trucks.

But scenery was beaufiful.

Spent the night in Elkin, NC.

The first site we had was not level and we did not want to unhook so called the office and they had this site open.  Short but we just fit.

Probably wouldn't stay here again mainly because it was off the beaten path.  When you drive some 300+ miles, you don't want the last 10-15 miles to be off the interstate very far, and, this was probably 10 miles off.

The next day our campground would be in VA, another 300+ miles, north of Roanoke.  We were in mountains a good share of the way - and rain.

Just had to take this picture - can't remember the last time we got over 13 MPH pulling the trailer.  And in mountains, too yet!

We found our campground - National Chimney Park 7 Campground in Mount Solon.  Again we were a long ways off the interstate, and, GPS took us the shortest way, as usual which was NOT the best way.
This was our site - OK, but...

had to use 3 boards to get the trailer level and got to use the extra step my cousin, Gary, made for us!

Beautiful park though.

.

Not sure where we picked this up, (probably way back in Florida) but had to let you know that we found it.  (Not available in TX until later this year.

Wednesday we traveled from VA to PA.

Approaching a tunnel...

We found our campground later in PA at a place called Don Laine CG in Palmerton.  No picture here but again off the beaten path.

On Thursday we headed East again and took this road in Eastern PA along the Delaware River with NJ on the other side.  Route 209 - 45 mile speed limit but worth it.  We wanted to get to I-84 which takes up over the NYC area altogether and gets into CT.

We made it to our campground in Barkhamsted, CT later on Thursday to spend a week with Larry and families.

Savannah, GA

On Saturday, 6/19, we left Florida and drove to Savannah, GA. to spend a couple of days there.  We crossed over a lot of rivers to get there.

Found our campground and settled in for the night.

We arranged to have a bus from "Old Town Tours" in Savannah to pick us up the next day (along with another couple who we later found out that they were from Winona, MN.  Small world!).

This is where our tour started.

And our tour bus.

One of their old cars.

The tour bus takes you around the city and you can get off and back on whenever you like.  The buses come about every 15 minutes.
This is a map they give you - very small but if you click on it, it should get larger.

This sign in case you need to know how far away you are from various cities.

Several pictures below are of the sites we saw.

To get down to the river's edge and the shops along there, you take a stone road down and another stone road up.

Savannah is a beautiful town.  We have been here 3 times now and would like to go back again sometime.

On Monday, Judy had an appointment at Juliette Lows house(s).
The appointment (actually tour) was for 10 AM.  It was a beautiful day.
We got there a few minutes early so Judy stood by the gate.  A lady came along and they got to talking.  She worked in the gift shop (or course there is one!).

The patio area between the two buildings is beautiful.

And a statue of Juliette Low.

With Judy.

While we were in the courtyard, a young lady came out and wanted to know if Judy was Judy Severance.  Apparently, the Tejas Council from Texas let them know Judy was coming and that she was celebrating her 70 year in Girl Scouts.

She had a special pin for Judy - Daughter of the House - to celebrate her many years in Girl Scouting.

We then went into the house and Judy sat in the room where Juliette Low had her first Girl Scout meeting.

We did get to the gift shop and Judy bought a nice back pack that she has been looking for.

It was worth staying over on Monday so that we could visit Juliette's house and Judy could be recognized for her many years of service.  It was very special and something we will always cherish.
