Connecticut (Simsbury)

We made it to our campground in Barkhamsted, CT on  Thursday, 6/24.

This is out of order but we thought it interesting that a pool was being transported somewhere (maybe to Julie and Ken's backyard???).

Expensive campground ($336 a week) for what you get - water and electric only.  And sites are very close to one another.  Fortunately, we didn't have any issues.

Dump station on the way out.  But the options were few and far between.  Anyway...

Our reason for being here was to see Larry and familiies.

On Friday night we had Larry and Karie, and Hannah and Jon out for supper and bonfire and smores.

We always leave it to our resident expert to start the fire for smores.!!

She did good!

We went to Karie's house to see where they live and to have some snacks on the back patio.

We were also in CT to attend a graduation party for Karie's daughter, Aubrey.  She plans to attend the University of New Hampshire.

Some pictures of the day.

Attended a couple of Karie's youngest son's ball games  Here he is at bat.

They did win their district.  Picture below is of the family.  From the right side it Connor, Larry, Aubrey, Karie, Cam, and the coach and his wife.

We did a little sightseeing around Simsbury.  This park has a tree that is between 300 and 500 years old.

These limbs are enormous!

We also visited what they call the 'Flower Bridge."  It's a walking bridge only but has flowers all along it.

And the stream below it.

Larry came out to the campground one morning to visit, and, we ended up at a diner for lunch.

This barn is on the way to Karie's house.  Judy likes pictures of barns in case you haven't noticed that in previous blogs!

On Tuesday we went out to dinner at this Mexican Restaurant to celebrate Hannah and Jon's 1st anniversary.

Jon's parents, Mike and Laurie, came down from MA to help celebrate.  They are on the left side of the table next to Judy.

We enjoyed meeting up with them and celebrating - the margaritas were a hit too!!

We had a great time visiting everyone since we were not able to get up there at all last year due to COVID.  But that should all be in the past now!

Noah's Ark

We left Connecticut on Thursday, 7/1.  With the holiday coming up, the campground was full.  So we left and drove to York, PA. and spent the long holiday weekend there.

The campground did not have a pool or playground equipment so not many families. We were in site 300 which was difficult to back into, but we made it.

It was a nice campground with an interesting waterfall/etc.

On Tuesday, the 5th, we left PA. and headed to Williamstown, KY to see Noah's Ark.  To get there, we drove thru Maryland, West Virginia and then KY.

We spent a night in Weston, WV at a campground we previously stayed at.  Didn't remember much about the last time there, but this time we had NO service - WIFI or phone so glad it was only one night!

The next night we were at a campground in Eastern KY for two nights.  Nice place.

And finally on Friday we made it to the Northern KY RV Park which is about 15 miles north of the Ark.  Another nice campground except for a couple of things:

-Train tracks not 200 yards from us and trains running day             and night!

The sewer connection was at the front of the site.  It took all       3 of my sewer hoses to make it!

The Ark was fantastic.  We got there around 8 and didn't leave until after 4.

Belinda came up from Nashville and toured with us.

This thing was immense!!

Judy and I are walking toward it - Belinda took the picture.

Hard to explain but it is supposed to be a picture of the 3 levels.

This is probably a better picture and shows how far it is to the other end.  The entire length is 1 1/2 football fields.

There were many storage areas for grains, water, etc.

Moses at his desk.

They grew plants/food in their living quarters.

This area highlights all of the children's books about the Ark.

You can click on this picture to read about the significance of The Door.

Another picture of the length of the Ark.

As you probably know, during the flood, Noah sent out a dove to find land.  In this picture the dove came back with a branch.

How many animals were actually on the Ark?

At the end of the tour they had a display showing how they made rope.  Very interesting.

In case you wondered how much walking we did...

I took this picture from our campsite the next day.  I thought it was neat.  In the background just above the trees was flag flying in the breeze.

Of course, we had many, many more pictures; these are the highlights.  If you want to see more of the Ark, you will have to visit there!

On Monday we started home.  First night we stayed at Stagecoach Station RV Park in Weston, KY.  Looked nice on the web but there were no level sites.  Didn't want to unhook for just one night so drove thru several sites before we found one that would be just ok.

On Tuesday we drove to Little Rock and spent the night there at the Downtown RV Park.  We have stayed here before.  Right on the Arkansas River and across from downtown.

Made it home to Plano on Wednesday.  Great trip but glad to be home for awhile.
