Wednesday, Setp 29th, we left Dubois, WY for Jackson. We went up into some pretty good mountain passes and made our way thru about 20 miles of construction. We had to follow a lead car and then navigate around the construction equipment. But, we were rewarded with the following picture of the Tetons:
We traveled down thru the valley between mountain ranges to get to Jackson. Jackson is a bustling, tourist town with a neat town square. We found our CG about 6 miles west of Jackson and got settled in. Later that night we picked up Nolan and Barbara Klier from the airport and drove them to their hotel.
The next morning we picked them up, had breakfast, and then headed out to the National Museum of Wildlife Art that included 12 different art galaries. Very interesting.
From there we drove to Jenny Lake and viewed all of the amazing scenery along the way. We had been told by Mary Lou Boardman from our church to take the boat ride and trail climb. We had planned to take the boat ride the next day, but when we went down to the dock to check out the times, etc., we found out that today was the last day that they were operating!! Were we ever lucky to have checked it out in advance!!
It was about a 10 minute ride accross a beautiful lake. Once off the boat, we started up the trail to see some falls up above. The climb was a little more strenuous than we expected, but we did make it at least 3/4 a mile. This first picture shows some people ahead of us.
Here are Nolan and Barbara ahead of us. This was typical of the trail most of the way up.
We did climb far enough to see the stream.
We found out that there was a much easier trail back down so we took it.
The is a picture of the dock and boat waiting to take us back.
On our drive back toward Jackson, we noticed alot of cars parked by this stream, and as we went by, we could see that it was a moose cooling off:
There were several people down by the moose to the left of the trees so we stopped and went to take a look for ourselves. Sure enough, here was Momma and her young one:
But, just a little further down the stream was this guy:
Couldn't get a real good picture of him because he was resting in the water and didn't want to look at us.
After that, we took some side roads to view the surrounding scenery and then headed back to Jackson for some much-needed dinner and:
The next day we started out again and this time drove further north to take in more of the scenery. These mountains actually have glaciers still on them!
We found Jackson Lake and its dam.
And behind the lake were the mountains. The lake was SO calm that the reflection was almost as good as the real thing!!
The lady in this picture was walking her little one in the water. Cant imagine that she wanted to do it, but she did!!
After we got back to Jackson, we toured the town square before having dinner. The park in the center of town had this for one of the entrances:
Those are old elk antlers. Elk lose their antlers every year so there are alot of them around.
There is also alot of bronze artwork throughout town. Here is just one example:
We had a great time in our travels and the weather cooperated fully. Alot of local people mentioned that they usually had snow by now. And here it was, in the 70's and lower 80's during the day and around 40 at night!!
The next day, Saturday, we broke camp and made our way to West Yellowstone, MT.
