South Texas (sort of)

We decided that we needed another trip in October so we left on 10/5 and drove to Spicewood, TX which is about 40 miles West of Austin, TX.

This was a large campground but had few campers at the time.

That's us in the middle way down there!

And here we are - somewhat closer!

They do have some 'retro' trailers that you can rent.

We picked this area/campground (Open Air Resorts) because friends of ours from our church (Kevin and Cindy) would be here.

They lived in Melissa, TX but sold their house in April, bought a trailer and have been doing some traveling out West for several months.

We spent 3 days with them and had a great time learning about all of their travels.  We ate Mexican (with margaritas of course) and BBQ.  Excellent food at both places.  Time flew by and before we knew it, it was time to leave.  So, on Thursday we left and drove further South to Canyon Lake area (about 20 miles West of New Braunfels).  This is a man-made lake as are all but one lake in TX.  The earthen dam here.

We found our campground (The Summit RV Park).  Beautiful site for us:

We spent a week here mainly just to get away from the hustle and bustle of Plano.

On Sunday we found a DQ (not the one I found on the area map!!!) and ended up taking a 'River Road' for about 10 miles.  It was very scenic (Guadalupe River), but slow travel, and, we ended up near New Braunfels so we went to a DQ there instead.

It has been great sitting outside in the shade and reading or doing some games on my phone.

We did have some visitors on Monday afternoon.

Looked like two full size deer and two smaller ones.

Plenty  of cacti around so Judy cut a couple of pieces and put them in a pot for Emma.

On Thursday we left and drove North about 200 miles to Glen Rose, TX.

More on the next set....
