It was a beautiful day as you can see - mostly sunny, and at least 60 degrees!
Here is a map.
And a neat picture from the air:
We left around 9:45, took a scenic tour around Kachemak Bay.
A couple of sea otters:
Thousands of birds on these rocks:
Then we headed to Seldovia - got there around 11 AM. Quaint little town. They call it: "Alaska's best kept secret. Come and enjoy her peace and beauty along with 300 friendly locals and a few old crabs."
Walked around the town - not a lot to see. They had one small grocery store and one gas station - $5.57 a gallon. There were alot of cars and ATV's around town. We went to the Visitor Center first - they had a some neat pictures and a cool window.
Judy took lots of pictures to give you an idea of what the homes were like.
Not really!!
The tides here in Alaska are some of highest in the world. Up in Anchorage the tide rises some 25 feet. Here it rises about 16 feet. This boat was in the water the first time we walked by.
Looks like a garage for an RV but don't know where they would go with it!!
Seldovia does have a small RV Park (which we didn't see) and they advertise that you can bring your RV over on a barge and then camp there!!
Found a couple of old churches:
Lutherans and Catholics share this one.
Old Russian Orthodox Church - no longer in use.
Judy has been taking alot of flower pictures while in Alaska. Here are a couple:
Had a nice lunch of cod and chips while overlooking the harbor. The tables had glass tops:
Later we sat on the benches overlooking the harbor.
We watched fishing boat come in and watched them filet the halibut. And, then our boat left a 4:30 and we were back in Homer an hour later.
The late afternoon was so nice that we sat outside and read for awhile. However, the breeze was cold so we had to move inside.
All in all, it was another great day in Alaska!
Tuesday we leave and will go to Soldotna for a picnic for all of the School Camper Hosts and will then continue on to Girdwood. We will be leaving the Kenai Peninsula after having been on the Peninsula for 7 weeks. Sure doesn't seem that long!
