We left New Hampshire on Wednesday, July 26th, and drove to Bar Harbor, ME (or as they call it: Bah Hahbah). It was a beautiful day for travel.
We found our campground and got set up. This is a view of our campsite. Ironically, this is the same site we had when we were here back in 2012.
On Thursday we caught the "Free" bus that take you all around the island - into town, all around Acadia National Park, Jordan Pond, and many other stops.
L.L. Bean is a big supporter of the bus system here.
We went into town and walked around. This is the harbor.
On Friday we were able to meet up with some "Hitchhiker" people whom we can now call friends. Brent and Ava from North Carolina.
They are on their way up into Canada but are headed to North Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and PEI.
We took a bus that takes you to Jordan Pond House where you can eat "Popovers" which is their specialty. They bake around 5,000 each day. You can order 2 popovers, jams, and a drink for around $11. They also have a regular menu, and, you can eat indoors or out.
We ate outdoors, and, when looking back from the pond, this is the eating area.
This is a view of Jordan Pond.
Trees and bus waiting area.
Bar Harbor is very popular for hiking, biking, walking, sunning, etc. this time of year. As you drive thru the National Park, there are many stops and people are always getting on or off the bus.
Here are a couple of views of the Atlantic along the route.
Sunday we took the bus into the town and walked over to the bay where, when the tide goes out, you can walk out onto the sand bar. It is another very popular spot.
While looking for some shells, we noticed a cruise ship in the harbor (which means even more people walking the streets in town!
This was one of the placemats on our table. Read the comment about "Home of -----------!!!"
After lunch we rented a couple of bikes and toured the area. (I posted this picture on Facebook, but nobody believed me!! I don't know why???)
Afterwards, we walked and shopped and then found a shady bench and sat for awhile. Then we "forced" ourselves to have some ice cream at our favorite shop before catching a bus back to the CG.
A lady next to our campsite is a seasonal camper (stays in one site all summer). She had this little display.
On Monday, the 31st, we will leave for Canada.
