Iron Mountain, MI

On our way to Iron Mountain, we encountered some of these 'Big Boys.'  Don't want to get in their way!

Found our campground for the weekend.  Very nice place.

We toured an iron ore mine.  "Big John" watched over it!

This was part of a iron statue with various tools hanging from it.

Our guide showed us how several pieces of equipment worked.

We got on a train to go into the mine.

We rode into the mine as far we the tracks went.  From there we walked thru the mine shafts to other areas where mining took place.

This chart, not easy to read, shows the levels - 13 in total.  We were on level one.  The other 12 levels were flooded now.

Between the iron mine and Iron Mountain is the city of "Norway."

Pasties (pronounced:  pass-ties) are very popular around here.  We bought 4 of them.  They are filled with various veggies and meat.  Pretty good stuff.

We had planned to attend church on Sunday.  Found one with a service that started at 10:45.  When we got there, it looked rather deserted.  We did go in but found out that during the summer they have only one service at 9:30.  Their website said nothing about that!!
So we found another church nearby and hurried over there.  Parking lot was quite full but sign said service was at 10 so we missed that one as well.

We tried...
