The Stewart airport is really only regularly used by helicopters. There are no scheduled airlines that fly in here.
This is the terminal!!!
The plane arrives.
What you see is the actual tarmac that they turned around on. The rest of the open area is gravel where the helos land.
I took this picture from the Facebook Stewart Flood Watch page.

This is a picture of us just before we boarded the plane. Judy is on the right in the front and I am behind her and to the left.
Check out this next picture - tight fit. I had to bend over half way just to get down the aisle. But the ride was great.
We left Stewart around 5 PM and flew over the mountains to Prince Rupert. The scenery along the way was great.
Judy got this shot of Stewart as we were leaving.
Stewart is a mining and logging town.
We landed at Prince Rupert after a 35 minute flight. This airport actually has 3 airlines servicing this town on a regular basis.
The airport is located on an island so you need to take a ferry across to the town. Apparently the weather over the island is much better than over the town so the airport was built here.
We had to take a van over to the other side of the island to meet the ferry.
Once we got to the town, we took a taxi to the port where our vehicles came in earlier. Truck is here!
From there we found a hotel. Actually, when we got off the ferry, a guy was standing there handing out business cards for the Coastal Inn Hotel. He said we would get a room for half price. So we took him up on it. It was a fantastic room - we got a great view.
We had a good night and got ready for our trip to Terrace the next day.
Wow - truly beautiful....!
ReplyDeleteWow, how nice to offer half price. They could have increased the price since they knew most of you needed a place. What an incredible view. What incredible view from the plane. All in all, to me, the flood turned into a great adventure for you! Not for all of the people of the town of Stewart but they certainly are a strong town.
