Our return trip included another stop over at Watson Lake where we visited the Sign Post Forest again.
We checked out our sign again only to find that it had faded considerably in only three months so we retraced it and then put tape over it.
We took some time to explore and found these two signs. They are significant because: 1) My cousins, the Series, lived just outside Verdi growing up, and, 2) Holland is 8 miles from my hometown of Pipestone, MN. So I called my cousin, Gary Serie, who now lives in Lake Benton, MN to ask him about the Reynolds. And he does know them quite well.
From the looks of the signs, they must have been traveling together and had their signs made at the same place.
We left Watson Lake on Thursday, Sept 1st and headed south on the Cassier Highway. Not very good road for several miles but did get better. We came to a place called Jade City.
Of course, we stopped and checked it. Jade is mined in this area big time and we were told that 90% of all jade comes from here. They start out with hugh boulders like this one.
And then make all kinds of jewelry, etc. from it using this equipment.
The store was quite large and it took us awhile to see everything, and, we didn't go away empty-handed either!!
