Homer, AK 7/17 to 7/21

Our time here in Homer is getting short.  The three weeks have gone by so fast.  The weather has improved alot - highs in the low 60's and lows around 50.  I know you "outsiders" (what the Alaskans call people from the lower 48) don't want to hear about it but what can I say!!

Another picture out our window.  Judy didn't realize that the cross would be in it (it was a gift from Bennie and Marie Benson a couple of years ago).

Spent time this past week with Nancy and Ben - a lot of it down on the Spit.

Walked the gift shops (again!).  Ben and I spent most of the time outdoors because they had Scotty with them.
We especially liked the Boardwalk Restaurant for halibut fish and chips, and, this day we ate outside.

Painting on one of the buildings down on the Spit.

Saturday Judy and I did some laundry again and then stopped for some ice cream at the jelly belly ice cream shop.  Here are a couple of pictures on their walls.

We also met up with Bob and Chris and friends of theirs who are also Mission Builders.  John and Sandi Sharp are actually former members of our church in Plano and now live in Frisco when not on the road.  We ate outside at a popular restaurant called "Two Sisters" in old downtown Homer.

Beautiful flowers in bloom.

We did get back to Soldotna and our favorite bakery one more time.  Actually we came back this way because Bob and Chris wanted to get some salmon from the BeachM Fishery in Kasilof that we have frequented in the past.  So we went to Soldotna first, had something to eat, shopped at the "Hardware and Fishing" store (yes, that is its name!), got some more dark beer for Judy at the Kenai River Brewery, drove over to Kenai to shop at Walmart, went to the local bookstore for a couple of books and then got salmon on the way back to Homer.  Busy day...

Flowers at the bakery.

Flowers (fireweed) at the Boys and Girls Club next to our school.

Sunday Bob and Chris and Judy and I went to church and then went to Two Sisters for some coffee and snacks. Weather was perfect - probably the best we have seen.  Breezy but sunny and warm (70 degrees).

For our last night here in Homer the four of us drove out to the Spit again for supper (fish and chips of course!) and then strolled the beach.

This monument is for all those seamen and women who have lost their lives at sea from the Homer area.

Ship coming in to Homer.

You can't really tell by this picture but the waves and swells were very strong. We were told that fishing was a bust today - they went out but had to come right back because it was too rough to fish.  Sure glad we didn't have that problem!

Belinda and Julie - check this one out.  Kids in the water jumping the waves!! Just like in Florida, only here the water is about 50 degrees!!!

We really hated to leave but know that Monday will be a new day and we will be traveling to Seward which is about 180 miles away.  Not a bad drive.

More later on this week...
