The past few days we have visited a book store, art studios, craft stores, the Salty Dog, and a bakery(?) as well as taking another fishing trip.
Found aother unique bookstore - we parked in this spot - and didn't get towed so I guess we were considered 'wizards!!'
Interesting sign at the bookstore.
The bookstore itself is in a small house and the shelves were floor to ceiling similar to the bookstore in Kenai except that this store had alot of "old" books - kind of pricey so we didn't buy anything.
We visited "Old Town" Homer.
Then we headed out to the Spit again to walk around and check out more stores.
Took time out to check out the Salty Dog again and found a table to sit at and enjoy a drink.
The walls and ceiling are interesting - hundreds (if not thousands) of dollar bills with people's names and date of visit. Also some bras and panties and other stuff!!
On Sunday we all went to church - LMCS - but very nice.
After the service we went to one of the local restaurant/bakery. This wasn't the name of the place but everything was healthy - so much so that Judy couldn't even get a diet coke!!! Maybe healthy is not the right word because they did have some delicious bakery goods!
We drove out the the Spit again to view the tides. The moon is at its fullest stage now and affects the tides much more than normal. Check out out steep the walkway is down to the docks.
Same at the boat ramp.
At high tide, the water is up against the rocks. I think the tide averages about 30 feet from low to high tide.
These pictures were taken from our trailer and you can see the sand bars out there.
Sunday, Judy's cousin, Nancy and husband, Ben arrived in Homer at a campground right across the street from us! When they came in, we walked over and said HI. We let them get setup and then took them out to the Spit for fish (hailbut) and chips.
This boat was in the process of turning around and followed us out.
Another boat in the harbor.
Judy and I sat in the cabin on the way out. We watched one of the deck hands do his work. When we first saw him, he had flip-flops on. Then a short time later, he was wearing boots.
And, shortly after that, he had on his waders!!
Some scenery on the way out - not sure what it was.
We went about 1 1/2 hours out to the first fishing hole. Very few fish got caught here so we brought our lines in and moved to another spot. A few fish were caught here but not enough for the captain so he moved us again,
On our third spot, Judy finally caught her first fish and some of the other caught theirs. However, I hadn't even had a bite yet!! And we moved yet again.
Here I am reflecting on this dire situation!!!
The fourth site proved to be good for Judy and for me. She caught her second fish and I caught both of mine. Whew!!
But, I guess, based on the number of fish being caught, we moved one more time. By then there were only two fishermen left, and, they caught their final fish right away.
On the way back the deck hands pulled out all the fish and laid them side by side.
And mine.
Fish cleaning again on the way back.
Check out the tide level now. The ramp is almost horizontal (6 hours later).
Later we met up with Nancy and Ben and drove out to the Spit again.
Final picture of the day - sun still high in the sky around 8 PM.
