Kenai, AK 6/27 to 6/29

Well, I am way behind on this blog, but will try to catch up in the next couple of days.

Judy and I drove out the the BEACHM Fishery in Kasilof to get some salmon.

This family, the Chase’s, have their own fishery called the BeachM (per the first letters of each family member - Brian, Elizabeth,Aaron, Caleb, Hannah, and Michael.

We were here back in 2011 and got a tour of how they fish for salmon in Cook Inlet, etc.
Anyway, we got about 10 lbs. of salmon (sockyeye - can't fish for kings since the numbers of kings coming into the Inlet are too low).  They had already filleted and flash frozen the fish - it is now in our freezer.

We spent our last two days (6/28 - 29) in Kenai with Bob and Chris Risberg, good friends of ours – originally from Plano but had lived in Atlanta the last 18 years or so.  They left Minot, ND on June 15th where they were doing mission building work due to the flooding back in 2011.  They arrived in Kenai on June 27th, some 2,800 miles later.
Kenai High School actually has sites for two campers so we arranged for them to be hooked up with electric and water while they were there.  We had to give them the .25 cent tour of Kenai that evening and then topped it off with some pizza and beer.

On Sunday we went to church in Soldotna and then went to our favorite bakery (The Moose is Loose Bakery) for some goodies.  Their featured item was “road kill” cinnamon rolls and they were delicious (as were the apple cinnamon fritters!!).

After the bakery we drove thru Centennial Park, a primitive campground, but you can get to a good fishing area on the Kenai River.  Still no fishing allowed in this part of the river, but these guys had a boat and went further down th river where it was legal.  They came back here to get their boat out of the water and then to clean fish.

Saw these two on the way back to Kenai.

We all did some final shopping at the local Walmart and Home Depot and then went back to the school.  Bob washed his trailer and truck – it needed it badly.  And then we had a cookout.

The mosquitoes tried to attack 'new' blood so Chris had her trusty zapper ready!

And, of course, after dinner, we started our card playing!
