Homer, AK 6/30

On Monday, June 30th, we both left Kenai and started our journey to Homer, all of 89 miles!  We saw a moose along the way but no picture this time.  It drizzled on and off along the way (I think because Bob washed his vehicles the day before, and, I had waxed our trailer!!) but we stopped to stretch and have a little lunch.

Saw a couple of guys fly fishing in the river but didn’t see if they caught anything.

Beautiful scenery along the way.

Large turnout here where you can view Kachemak Bay.

Our first glimpse of the Homer Spit, a 4 mile long extension out into Kachemak Bay.

Flowers at the turnout.

Another view of the Spit.

Glacier in the distance.

We arrived at the Homer Middle School and got all setup.

(And - wonders never cease - I got out the DISH and found the satellites!!)

Our view out the window.

Chris and Bob got setup at the Homer High School.

They have a beautiful view from their location.

From there we drove down to the Homer Spit to see the sights and have dinner.

Some of the boats in the harbor.

Views around the Bay from the Spit.

We went into the Salty Dog but it was too busy to even find a table.

It seemed quite crowded for a Monday night to me but the campgrounds along the Spit were crowded so I guess that was why.
Cruise ships now stop here and apparently there were two here today.  One must have left because this was the only one left and it departed around 6 PM.

We found a restaurant (Chinese actually) that advertised fish (halibut) and chips for $15.95.  The waitress took our orders and brought us some beer.  While we were admiring the view out the windows, she came back and said that they had run out of halibut because they had been so busy that day.  But someone was going over to buy some halibut, and, we could wait if we wanted to.  Being in no hurry, we did wait.  And it was definitely worth it!!

More to come…
