6th Canadian Stop - Dawson Creek, BC

Yesterday we woke up to rain (again), but it cleared up and the sun shone most of the day.  Then about 6 PM, a thunderstorm blew by and then it quieted down again.
We did go into town and toured the visitor center. We saw an hour movie about the construction of the Alcan Highway which was very interesting.

This is the start of the Alcan Highway - Mile 0 - starting at Dawson Creek and ending at Fairbanks, AK.

The town used to have 7 elevators in a row about a mile from the Mile 0 site.
All but one are gone now, and, they moved this one to this location.

We also went into town where the original Mile '0' Statue is - the other one was built when someone drove into this one.  But it has since been rebuilt.

We had lunch at a Boston Pizza Restaurant.  We've seen alot of them and decided it was time to try it - and it was great.
We saw a couple of interesting sites here in town:

A grocery store:

And, of all things, a church for sale:

Today we visited a museum here in town - The Walter Wright Pioneer Village.  The village is a collection of original buildings that were moved from the surrounding countryside to this location.  There are several buildings:

Dawson Creek Village Fire Hall - it houses a 1941 K8 International 600 GPM pumper and a 1951 Ford LaFrance 500 GPM.

They are housed in this building which was built as a school project by students from the Northern Lights College.

There is also a school, church, general store,

There were several other buildings, including a blacksmith shop, but we didn't get pictures of those.  All in all, it was very informative.

Tomorrow, Saturday, we leave Dawson Creek and start our journey on the Alcan Highway.  We plan to go only 150 miles to a small town, Sikanni, and will camp there for one night (no internet or TV!!).  On Sunday we will travel about 240 miles to a place called Toad River.  I'll probably do another update there.
