Along the way, we went thru a corridor that must have constant winds because we saw fields of windmills.
And mountains again. Beautiful country.
We found our CG with ease (even with all the traffic) and got set up.
Flowers are starting to bloom here - this is out our back window:
Turns out that the CG is about 2 blocks from Disneyland.
Seems like we drove by the entrance at least a half dozen times yesterday and today. But we never went in.
Last night we drove over to my cousin's (Denny Barkley, and his wife, Winnie of 41 years) house in Huntington Beach.
We got there in time to watch the second half of the Butler game. Very exciting to see them win again and hope that they can do it one more time on Monday. After the game they drove us over to the Pier for dinner at Ruby's, which just happens to be at the END of the pier. So we walked out there in the brisk wind; they had jackets - I was in shorts and a shirt; Judy wore clothes that were a little warmer. It was busy but the food was good and we had a good time.
After that, we drove up the Pacific Coast Highway to Sunset Beach and saw a $3 million home that was quite unique. We went back today and got a couple of pictures of it.Can you believe it? A water tower? Only in CA, I guess!!
Today we met them at the Islands Restaurant along with Denny's brother (and my cousin, too), Rick, his wife Matty, and their daughter, Cheryl. Alot of fun kidding each other and talking about the 'old' times back in MN!
Prior to meeting them, we did drive along the coastal highway and stopped along the way to take a couple of pictures: (LA is in the background)
And, Barb, for your information, the water hardly ever gets to 60 degrees, so no 'polar bear club' for me!!
We purposely met Denny and Winnie at this restaurant because Rick had left his credit card there a few weeks ago and didn't realize it. We gave him a hard time about that. Anyway, they had it for him. Ironically, when we went to pay, I was missing my VISA card; we knew that we had gotten gas earlier in the day so we figured that it would be there if anywhere. I looked at the gas receipt to see if I had actually used my VISA card, but when I filled up, I had to go into the station to get a receipt and it was generic, with only the basic gas informtion. So we drove back to the station, but just before we got there, I realized that I had also used it the preivous night at Ruby's.
Here's Ruby's:
And some sidwalk art in progress:
Anyway, we still had the receipt so Judy gave them a call. Sure enough, they had it. So, back to the beach - drive around to find a parking spot - finally find one about 4 blocks from the pier. Judy stays in the car and I walk about 15 minutes each way to retrieve my card. Don't know why I left it there, but I guess I was distracted when we got up to leave. ( I know for a fact that it wasn't a Senior moment!!).
(Julie, on the way back, we saw this and knew that you liked this place:
So now we are back at the CG resting up for the drive up to Bakerfield tomorrow to visit Judy's cousins, Nancy, Diane, and Neil and families.
More to come...
