We found the Thousand Trails Morgan Hill CG (about 20 miles south of San Jose) and started thru the park looking for a site. We noticed some movement along the side of the truck - here was Dave Steffel trying to catch up with us, and Nancy was right behind him! Seems that they were watching TV in their cabin, and, watching for us to drive by. So they hopped in and we drove around until we found a good site.
Dave and Nancy's cabin is behind our trailer toward that mountain.
Got unhitched and set up (even got the DISH pointed!!). We are surrounded by mountains so phone service is NON-EXISTANT!!! But my air card for the computer works - go figure!
Anyway, we had dinner (and beer) together and had a good time. We decided to go to San Francisco the next day so when we got back to the RV about 8:30 PM, I started checking on the Alcatraz cruise/tour on the internet - found out that there were only 2 tour times not yet filled. So I walked back over to Dave and Nancy to let them know. They agreed that we had better book one. By the time I got back to the RV, only one time was left. Fortunately, I was able to make a reservation for 4!
For some reason, we felt that we had to find this place first:
From there we walked over to the piers and saw this tall ship in the harbor:
Then we took the Alcatraz cruise/tour. This is a drawing of the island itself:
This is the view back to the city from Alcatraz:
Judy and I had been here back in 1998, but it was fun to do it again.
We drove accross the Golden Gate Bridge to get some pictures of SF from the other side:
This is the view looking back at Alcatraz:
And another view of San Francisco from the other side:
It's free to cross the bridge from SF to Salsalido, but to come back costs $6! What a racket!
We got back to Morgan Hill about 8 PM and decided we needed pizza for dinner. The security people at the CG had told Dave that Mountain Man Pizza was the best in town, so of course, that is where we went. Must have been an off-night for the employees because the service was somewhat slow, we got stuff on our pizzas we didn't want, and stuff we wanted but didn't get!! (Ken and Gehrig - reminded me of Pizza Plus!!).
Yesterday we ran some errands (thanks to Dave and Nancy for chauffering us) and then had dinner (and beer). Taught Dave and Nancy how to play 3-13. Had a great time.
That's it for now - will write again later in the week. I have to get busy and get my tax extension in the mail. We also need to plan our trip going forward - we don't know yet where we are going from here!!
