Mannhiem, PA and Amish Country

On Friday, July 22nd, we drove to Mannhiem, Pa. for the weekend.

We crossed over from CT into NY via the Tappen Zee Bridge.  Looks like they are building new bridges.  Very impressive.

We followed I-287 around the NY metroplex and found I-87 to to take us into PA.  We pulled off the interstate to buy gas in Easton, PA and found out that they have a Crayola factory here.  We tried to find a place to park and maybe take a quick tour, but the streets were so crowded and no place to park, so we continued on.

We found our campsite and got setup for the weekend in a Thousand Trails campground.

On Saturday we drove over to the Amish Village in Lancaster, PA.  There are approximately 34,000 Amish in this area (the largest concentration in the US).  Took a tour and saw how they live and work.  Judy took many pictures so I am including most of them below.

It was a hot day here (90+) so we were wore out by the end of the day.

Sunday we went to church in Mannheim - Zion Lutheran Church, The Red Rose Church.

The layout was unusual - instead of walking into the sanctuary and seeing the alter at the front, it was at the side at the back of the church.

This picture shows where you came in and when you turned around, you could see the balony where the orchestra once played.

Very nice service.  The pastor was away so a seminarian gave the sermon and her Dad was the Assistant.

We spent the remainder of the day in the CG and then got ready to leave on Monday for Ohio.
