On Thursday, August 4th, we left Nebraska and headed for Pipestone, MN. my home town. Pipestone is one of two cities in MN that have concret water towers such as this one (the other one is in Brainerd).
We got our usual campsite at the local campground. Had dinner that night at Langes Cafe of course, with my cousin and his wife, Gary and Shirl Serie.
On Friday we drove up to Lake Benton (18 miles north) to their store to do some shopping. Also checked out the local CG (Hole in the Mountain) for when we come back over Labor Day.
Drove out to the CG (on the lake -Benton) to see if another cousin, John and his wife Gerri Appeldorn were there. This campground is very nice as well - here is one that backs up to the lake.
Saw Gerri but she mentioned that John was at the farm getting things ready for the machinery auction that they are having on the 20th. We drove out to the farm and visited with John.
This is the farmhouse where my grandparents, Herman and Marie Appeldorn first started farming when they moved up to MN from Iowa. My mother and several of her siblings were born in this very house.
That evening we went to the Pipestone County Fair. Saw some animals.
But also went thru the FFA building and saw the many vegetables and other things that were judged. (Julie, these are for you!!).
Had a great hamburger supper at one of the local church restaurants and then walked around some more.
Thought this would be the ultimate in tractors.
A short stay in Pipestone this time, but we will be back later, in Sept.
